Medicare Part D
Medicare Drug coverage called Medicare Part D helps pay for your prescription drugs. It is optional but offered to everyone with Medicare. You should consider adding Part D drug coverage when you are eligible. To be eligible, you must have Medicare Part A and/or Part B.
The cost of outpatient prescription drugs can be a significant expense. A Medicare Part D plan can help you keep cost manageable and limit the maximum amount of money you would have to spend for covered medications in a calendar year.
Medicare Part D Plans are offered through private health plans. Each plan has a formulary naming the covered medications and associated co-payments. Plans can and do change each year. Because of the changes that occur, you should have your Part D coverage reviewed by a professional annually. Open enrollment is October 15th to December 7th each year. This allows you the freedom to choose the Part D program that best serves your prescriptions needs. The professionals at Health Coverages can help you determine how changes may adversely affect you and potentially provide alternative solutions to enhance your coverage.
If you don’t elect Part D coverage when eligible and don’t have other credible prescription drug coverage you will likely pay a late enrollment penalty that’s added to
your monthly premium if you join a plan later. One of our professionals can help you understand election and selection to help you avoid any late penalties.
